New Delhi: Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced on Saturday that the party is set to unveil its upcoming list of Lok Sabha candidates, which will include nominations for the pending seats in Uttar Pradesh, within the next two days.

During a Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held today, discussions revolved around candidates for the highly anticipated seats in Uttar Pradesh, particularly Raebareli and Amethi.

“When asked about the new Congress list, Venugopal stated, ‘Within one or two days…'”

Sources revealed that a proposal from the UP Congress was presented to the CEC suggesting that the Gandhi family should contest the Amethi and Raibareli seats. The final decision has been left to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress is yet to make official statements regarding the Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh, which were historically considered strongholds for the party until the 2019 elections.

In 2019, Rahul Gandhi faced defeat against BJP’s Smriti Irani in Amethi, a constituency he had represented for 15 years. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is seeking re-election from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after securing a significant victory there during the 2019 elections.

As of now, the Congress has announced 308 candidates for the seven-phase Lok Sabha election, which commenced on April 19.
