Jaipur: Violent clashes erupted between two groups over an issue of hoisting a flag in Jodhpur, as a result, internet services have been suspended. The incident occurred around mid-night at 12am on Monday.
The police and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary teams rushed to the scene and used persuasion and pacification to bring the situation under control. However, two groups returned late at night, and the situation became heated again. Heavy police were stationed, until late at night, at Jalori Gate and the Idgah area.
According to local sources, some people were raising flags at the Jalori Gate intersection. A person making a video was beaten up by some youths, people who came to his aid were attacked as well. The other faction began pelting stones soon after.
Over a dozen people were reportedly injured during the commotion, which lasted until late at night. To keep the crowd under control, the police used tear gas shells. Udaymandir SHO Amit Sihag and DCP East Bhuvanbhushan Yadav were injured in the stone pelting. The police pursued the suspects and returned them to their homes. Following this, a large number of police officers were stationed along Jabta Idgah Road and at the intersection of Jalori Gate. Barricades were erected on many of the roads leading to Jalori Gate. Sursagar MLA Suryakanta Vyas and Corporation South Mayor Vanita Seth arrived late at night and sat outside the police station until 2:30am.
After the incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, calling the incident unfortunate, tweeted, it is unfortunate that tension has arisen due to the clash between two groups at Jalori Gate, Jodhpur. The administration has been instructed to maintain peace and order at all costs. The CM appealed to the parties to maintain peace and said, respecting the tradition of love and brotherhood of Jodhpur, Marwar, I make a touching appeal to all the parties to maintain peace and cooperate in creating law and order.
