BT Bureau, Mumbai: Mumbai locals’ AC local ticket prices will be reduced by 50 per cent. Devendra Fadnavis has informed in Nagpur that it has been decided to reduce these rates by 50%. He also thanked the central government for this.
What did Devendra Fadnavis say?
In Mumbai, people were demanding reduction of AC local rates. That demand has been accepted. These rates have been reduced by 50 per cent. We are giving relief to Mumbaikars and our expectation is that their journey should be pleasant, said Devendra Fadnavis. I thank the Government of India, especially the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve has made an announcement in this regard, for which I also thank him.
Mumbaikars had demanded a reduction in AC train fares. Today, a decision has been announced to reduce its rates by 50 per cent. Devendra Fadnavis also said that he is confident that local trains will be able to travel at cheaper rates at cheaper rates.
Although AC locals started in Mumbai, their rounds were limited and fares were high. Therefore, Mumbaikars had demanded a reduction in these rates. It was expected that the existing rates would be reduced by 20 to 30 per cent. But in reality AC local rates have been reduced by 50 per cent. This has been a great relief to Mumbaikars. A proposal to reduce fares has also been submitted to the Ministry of Railways.
The Ministry of Railways has also expressed confidence that people will now respond well to AC Local after the reduction in ticket prices. AC locomotives are operated by Central and Western Railways. However, due to unaffordable ticket prices, the response was not as good as it should have been. Ticket prices have now been slashed to increase the number of passengers.
