24 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Colombo: Twenty-four Indian fishermen were arrested by Sri Lanka Navy for illegally traversing in their area. Five fishing boats from them were also seized on Tuesday.

Sri Lankan Navy stated that the Indian fishermen were arrested as they were fishing in their area near North Jaffna Island area. The action was taken by the Sri Lankan Navy and Border Security Force. The arrested fishermen were brought to Kankesanthurai port and were handed over to the Directorate of Fishing.

The Sri Lankan Navy stated that so far 252 Indian fishermen have been arrested for illegally entering their area for fishing. The issue is of dispute between India and Sri Lankan, which is related to a narrow Jaldamru stride (connecting pakistan, Sri Lanka and India) rich for the fishermen of both nations. The area is known for violation by the fishermen.
