Israeli authorities confirmed the death of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader and architect of the October 7 attack, during a military operation in Gaza. Foreign Minister Israel Katz hailed the news as a “victory for the entire free world.”
Sinwar, who had been Israel’s top target, was reportedly killed in Tal El Sultan, southern Gaza. Israeli officials stated that they were verifying the identification through dental and DNA evidence. Following the operation, Katz referred to Sinwar as a “mass murderer,” emphasizing the strategic significance of the killing for Israel and its allies.
Al-Majd, a Hamas-affiliated website, urged Palestinians to await confirmation from Hamas rather than relying on Israeli sources. Israeli media suggested that the military operation was routine and that Sinwar’s presence was coincidental. Sinwar had led Hamas in Gaza since 2017 and played a pivotal role in planning the October attack, marking him as a significant figure in the ongoing conflict.
