New Delhi: In a bold display of naval prowess, the Indian Navy successfully thwarted Somali pirates in a daring 40-hour-long operation, rescuing the Bulgarian Ship MV Ruen. With precision and determination, Indian Navy personnel compelled 35 Somali pirates to surrender, earning widespread acclaim for their efforts. Expressing profound appreciation, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev conveyed his thanks to PM Modi for India’s decisive action. President Radev commended the Indian Navy’s gallant operation during a recent address on platform ‘X’ on March 18. In response, PM Modi acknowledged President Radev’s sentiments and reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to combating piracy. The rescue operation, spearheaded by the Indian Navy Vessel INS Kolkata, liberated MV Ruen from captivity following its hijacking on December 14, 2023. Notably, footage of the encounter between Indian Marine Commandos (MARCOS) and the 35 Somali pirates was also released, underscoring the precision and efficiency of the operation.
