Dhaka: The interim government in Bangladesh has officially cancelled eight national holidays that were established during former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration. Among the holidays revoked is the significant “Historic March 7” holiday, which commemorates Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s landmark speech.
The cancelled holidays include:
– March 7 (Historic Day)
– March 17 (Mujibur Rahman’s Birthday)
– August 5 (Birthday of Sheikh Hasina’s brother)
– August 8 (Birthday of Sheikh Hasina’s mother)
– August 15 (Death Anniversary of Mujibur Rahman)
– October 18 (Birthday of Sheikh Hasina’s younger brother)
– November 4 (National Constitution Day)
– December 12 (Smart Bangladesh Day)
The Chief Adviser to the interim government announced the decision via a post on the verified Facebook page, followed by a circular from the Cabinet Division confirming the cancellations.
