New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi paid their respects to Maharishi Valmiki at the Maharishi Valmiki temple in the capital on Thursday.
During the visit, Kharge emphasized the importance of economic and educational empowerment for the Valmiki community and called for unity among all Dalit sects to advocate for their rights.
Rahul Gandhi remarked on the enduring legacy of Maharishi Valmiki, stating, “He showed humanity the path of truth, justice, and harmony with love and compassion.” He highlighted Valmiki’s contribution to literature, particularly the epic Ramayana, which he gifted to humanity.
In an informal interaction with reporters following the tribute, Kharge noted that many members of the Valmiki community remain economically and educationally disadvantaged. He reiterated the need for targeted efforts to empower the community.
Kharge also stressed that the Congress party has launched a nationwide movement to safeguard the Constitution and democracy, asserting that these pillars are essential for protecting people’s rights and strengthening the nation.
