Delhi Government Changes Office Timings to Combat Rising Pollution

New Delhi: In light of the increasing pollution levels in the national capital, the Delhi government has announced a significant change in the office timings for government departments. The new timings are designed to reduce traffic congestion and curb pollution by staggering office hours.

– Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Offices: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
– Central Government Offices: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (unchanged)
– Delhi Government Offices: 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM

The objective behind this adjustment is to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads at the same time, thereby decreasing traffic congestion and air pollution. With staggered office hours, the Delhi government hopes to lessen the pressure on roads during peak hours, which will ultimately help in controlling the pollution levels.

Earlier, the Delhi government had closed schools for students up to class 5 and switched to online classes due to the rising pollution. In addition, with the implementation of GRAP 3 (Graded Response Action Plan), several other measures have been enforced across the NCR, including restrictions on BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel vehicles, and a complete ban on construction and the operation of diesel generators.

Delhi’s Environment Minister Atishi posted the revised office timings on social media, highlighting that these changes would provide significant relief in the fight against pollution. “Delhi Municipal Corporation offices will operate from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Central Government offices from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Delhi Government offices from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

These steps are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat the city’s severe air pollution, which has been a growing concern for residents.
