Mumbai: In a significant political move ahead of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the BJP has ‘snatched’ five constituencies from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Sena faction, which are currently held by its representatives. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had previously urged Shinde to make concessions in the seat-sharing agreement, highlighting the BJP’s sacrifices over the past two and a half years to maintain their Mahayuti alliance.
The BJP’s first list of candidates reveals Anup Agarwal contesting from Dhule city, taking over from Sena’s Hilal Mali. Other notable changes include Atul Tayde in Achalpur, Rajesh Bakhale in Deoli, Rajan Naik in Nalasopara, and Mahesh Baldi in Uran, replacing Sena incumbents.
Nalasopara is particularly intriguing, as it has never elected a BJP MLA or an independent supported by the party. Analysts believe this bold strategy could reshape future elections in traditionally Sena strongholds like Palghar and Boisar. The focus now turns to whether these BJP candidates can secure victories in these critical constituencies.
