Kathmandu: Nepal has issued 870 permits for climbers to scale 37 mountains during the fall climbing season. As of Wednesday evening, the Department of Tourism reported that 668 males and 202 females from 70 countries and regions have been granted permission to attempt peaks, including Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters) and Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), the seventh and eighth highest mountains in the world.
Among the climbers, 73 are from the United States, while 72 and 69 hail from China and France, respectively. Rakesh Gurung, director at the tourism department, noted, “We still have more than a month for this season. We’re expecting to cross last year’s number,” referring to the approximately 1,300 permits issued during the fall climbing season in 2023. The climbing season in Nepal typically runs from September to November.
