Imphal:  The United Naga Council (UNC) of Manipur has given Union Home Minister Amit Shah a 15-day ultimatum to address the long-pending issue of the “arbitrary creation” of seven new districts in 2016. The UNC warned of launching intense agitation if the matter is not resolved within the stipulated time.

In a letter to Shah, UNC demanded a rollback of the decision, citing social unrest due to the division of parent districts without the consent of Naga stakeholders during the Congress regime. Despite 10 rounds of tripartite talks, the issue remains unresolved since 2019. The Naga body has now threatened mass protests and economic blockades.
