Shimla: The water problems that Shimla residents have been dealing with for the past week appear to be gone. From tomorrow, every locality would receive water on alternating days, according to Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL).
“Water levels in the sources have risen as a result of the rain.” Aside from that, other supply-related difficulties have been resolved. In a news conference today, SJPNL General Manager RK Verma remarked, “We are sure of sticking to our alternate day plan.”
“If there are still problems in some places, water will be delivered by tankers.” “We will not allow the situation to spiral out of control,” Verma stated.
Apart from the lack of water in the sources, the interruption created by power outages exacerbated the problem, forcing some areas to wait until the fourth day to get water.
“On June 12, a tree fell on electricity cables at the Gumma Water Scheme, and it took nearly 24 hours to restore power.” Furthermore, our smaller scheme experienced some power outages as well. “All of this messed up our supply schedule,” he explained.
According to Verma, the corporation loses 20% of its water due to distribution leaks. “The city’s distribution network is quite outdated, and a lot of food is wasted due to leaks.” “Leaks are repaired when they are discovered, but it is impossible to identify all leaks,” he explained.
‘Illegal’ connections were sanctioned by SJPNL.
The SJPNL is tangled up in a tangle over an illegal connection made from the Gumma Water Scheme’s rising main pipe near Fagu. The link was approved by the corporation, according to SJPNL GM RK Verma.
It was given with the understanding that it would not be used during the summer months, but the crew failed to plug it in. “We’ve cut the line and called the record to find out why and how it was sanctioned,” Verma explained. MLA Theog Rakesh Singha has already filed a police report in connection with this matter.
