Nagpur: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said that IIM Nagpur will not only be an educational institution but also a centre for betterment of the lives of the students.
Addressing the program to inaugurate a new building and campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, the President said he was sure that the ambience of Nagpur IIM would enable the students to not only find employment but also to provide employment.
The President said that IIM would contribute to the advancement of women in Nagpur, a true tribute to the land of Savitribai Phule and Anandibai Joshi.
Nagpur’s IIM is the first educational institution in the country, to be located in the Special Economic Zone.
The President said that Nagpur was also the initiation site of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, father of the country’s Constitution. Maharashtra has always been the centre of social, economic, political and educational development.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State Nitin Raut, Minister Subhash Desai and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis were also present along with the President on this occasion.
The President said, “Our traditions have always emphasized upon sharing, especially in the field of knowledge. Hence, it is our duty to share the knowledge which we have gathered.” He said that knowledge sharing leads to greater growth of knowledge itself.
He congratulated IIM, Nagpur for taking the initiative to establish satellite campuses in Pune, Hyderabad and Singapore.
Speaking on the occasion, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had decided to increase the number of IIMs seven years ago to create world class manpower. It was decided to set up IIM Nagpur in Maharashtra. Fadnavis said that 150 acres of land had been made available for this institute. Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan and the President inaugurated it.
Minister Subhash Desai said that steps were taken towards Balasaheb Thackeray’s dream of development of Maharashtra. Desai said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed his determination to provide necessary assistance from the state government for Nagpur IIM.
IIM Nagpur’s splendid campus
The first session of the Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur, considered one of the most prestigious institutes in the world, began in July 2015. Since it did not have its own building at the time, the IIM classes began in the campus of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT).
The grand campus of IIM Nagpur has been constructed on 132 acres of land in Mihan area of Nagpur. The first phase of construction has been completed. Presently, 665 students studying in various disciplines of management reside in this building. With the campus in making the organisation has now got a new life.
Sophisticated classes
IIM Nagpur has 20 hi-tech classrooms and 24 training centres. Apart from this, a 400-seat Convention Centre has been built. To convey the message of goal setting-aiming, a grand statue of the archer Arjun (from the epic Mahabharat) has been installed in the courtyard of the new building. IIM Nagpur has partnered with leading organisations from across the globe and avails online guidance from abroad. Merit Scholarship and Need-cum-Merit Scholarship are the two facilities for the weaker sections of the society.

IIMs have partnerships with world class universities in England, USA, Canada, Japan, Denmark, France. These include the International Institute University of Lille, France; Westminster Business School, University of Westminster, England; University of Memphis, USA; Institut Mines Telecom, France; Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.
