On the 74th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji’s death, Rahul Gandhi tweeted in Hindi, “Gandhiji was shot by a Hindutvada, and all Hinduvtvas feel he is no longer alive. Gandhiji continues to live wherever there is truth. #GandhiForever”.
In response to a tweet by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut remarked on Sunday (January 30) that a true “Hindutvavadi” would have shot Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah rather than Mahatma Gandhi, and that such an act would have been an act of patriotism.

M K Gandhi was killed at the Birla House courtyard in Delhi by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948. “I seized courage in both hands and fired the shots at Gandhiji in the prayer grounds of Birla House on 30th January 1948,” Godse admitted in court. Godse may have pulled the trigger, although he was apparently a member of the rightist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the time of the killing, and his affiliation with the rightist organisation at the time of the assassination remains a gray area.
