Ronaldo, Pepe in Portugal squad for FIFA World Cup

Lisbon: Portugal has announced the 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo (37) is set to play his fifth World Cup. The 39-year-old veteran defender Pepe has also been included in the team.

Despite not scoring for Portugal in the last three matches, Ronaldo has been supported by national coach Fernando Santos. The charismatic footballer has been instrumental in leading the team to the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 UEFA Nations League title.

Santos was quoted as saying by ESPN, The players I have called have the hunger to win and make Portugal world champions, Ronaldo is in the team. I believe we can be world champions and this team can make us champions.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be played in Qatar from November 20 till December 18.

Portugal’s squad for FIFA World Cup 2022 is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Diogo Costa, Jose Sa, Rui Patricio.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Joao Canelo, Danilo Pereira, Pepe, Ruben Dias, Antonio Silva, Nuno Mendes, Rafael Guerrero.

Midfielders: Joao Palinha, Rubén Neves, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Mario, Matthias Nunes, Vitinha, William Carvalho, Ottavio.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Rafael Leo, Ricardo Horta, Goncalo Ramos, Andre Silva.
