Haryana Government Assures Full Support for Municipal Elections, Announces Key Details

Chandigarh, February 10 — In a bid to ensure the smooth and transparent conduct of the upcoming Municipal Bodies elections in Haryana, Chief Secretary Dr. Vivek Joshi has assured the State Election Commissioner, Sh. Dhanpat Singh, of the government’s full cooperation. The assurance aims to facilitate a fair, free, and peaceful election process across the state.

The announcement came during a joint meeting led by Sh. Dhanpat Singh and Dr. Vivek Joshi, where the preparations for the general elections of municipal bodies were discussed in detail. Sh. Dhanpat Singh outlined that the elections would cover a total of 08 Municipal Corporations, 04 Municipal Councils, and 21 Municipal Committees, as well as bye-elections for Mayor and Ward Member positions in several constituencies. Notably, elections for the Mayors of Municipal Corporations in Ambala and Sonepat, along with seats in various municipal committees, will take place as part of the electoral process.

The election schedule has been finalized, with polling for the general and bye-elections set for March 2. However, polling for the Mayor and Ward Members of Municipal Corporation Panipat will take place a week later, on March 9. The total number of wards across 33 municipalities stands at 644, with various reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes, Women, and Backward Classes, ensuring fair representation in the elections.

Haryana will see a total of 45,26,227 registered voters across these municipal bodies. Of this, 24,03,004 are male voters, 21,23,072 are female voters, and 151 voters belong to the transgender category. A total of 4,469 polling booths will be set up to accommodate the electorate across the state.

The meeting also focused on critical areas such as the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, law and order, and the provision of essential services like power supply, water, sanitation, and health services during the election period. Discussions also covered matters related to excise and taxation to ensure a smooth and compliant election environment.

Several senior government officials were present at the meeting, including Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher Education Department Sh. Vineet Garg, Commissioner & Secretary of the Urban Local Bodies Department Sh. Vikas Gupta, Commissioner & Secretary of Public Health Engineering Mohammad Shayin, and Additional Director of Information, Public Relations, and Languages, Smt. Varsha Khangwal.

The state’s commitment to ensuring a seamless and efficient election process underscores Haryana’s dedication to upholding democratic values while fostering transparency and participation at the grassroots level.
