NEW DELHI: The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is heading for a decisive victory in Maharashtra, outpacing the struggling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), while the opposition INDIA bloc is poised to secure a win in Jharkhand, according to trends published on the Election Commission’s website on Saturday.

As votes were counted for the assembly elections held earlier this month, both India’s ruling and opposition alliances appeared set to claim one state each, reflecting a preference for continuity over change among voters in these key states.

In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti coalition—comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction)—is leading in 218 out of 288 seats, showcasing a strong wave of support. Meanwhile, the MVA alliance, which includes Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), is ahead in only 50 constituencies.

The trends highlight contrasting outcomes in the two states, with Maharashtra reaffirming the BJP’s dominance and Jharkhand signaling a shift towards the opposition INDIA bloc.
